Hi! OpenVMS/ALPHA 6.2 (without decwindows) Rdb 6.1 A week ago my customers disk fails. It was user disk but RUJ was located there too. He used RMU Alter to removed rujs. Then he export and import database (5 GB) and tried to use database all was OK until. There was another test database on those disks. When another person tried to access this second database monitor shuts down. But locks was not realased. I want to know if it's normal bahavior? (shutting down monitor and holding locks after monitor shutdown)

If the customer deleted all references to the RUJ from the database, then there is a high probability that he will have inconsistent data. The export/import will clear up any indexing problems and completely rebuild the database, however, the data records may still be suspect. Did the user also fix up the second database? If not then a disk failure would have left the database in in inconsistent state and anything could result from trying to attach to it.. What sort of errors were put into the monitor log? Were there any messages visible to the user before the monitor disappeared? Were any bugchecks created? is there a bugcheck in the monitor log? | |||||

But locks was not realased. Sounds like the "monitor dies when DBR fails" problem. I believe if you ugprade to the latest ECO this will be fixed. That is, the monitor will no longer shut down if a DBR fails. You sill need to figure out why the DBR failed. Liz |
