| Hi,
We have just upgraded a system from AVMS V6.1 to V7.1. Previously it
was running RDB V5.1 and this worked just fine. Now RDB will not
even start:
$ @SYS$COMMON:[SYS$STARTUP]RMONSTART51.COM;1
%INSTALL-E-FAIL, failed to CREATE entry for DISK$ALPHASYS:<SYS0.SYSCOMMON.SYSLIB
>RDMPRV51.EXE
-INSTALL-E-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch - please relink
%INSTALL-E-FAIL, failed to CREATE entry for DISK$ALPHASYS:<SYS0.SYSCOMMON.SYSLIB
>RDMSHRP51.EXE
-INSTALL-E-SYSVERDIF, system version mismatch - please relink
%DCL-W-ACTIMAGE, error activating image RDMPRV51
It's a good error message. However I thought VMS V7 meant that I would
run some risks of a crash not that it was a complete nogo.
If I re-install V5.1, will this resolve the problem? i.e. does the kit
link at install time?
I suspect not, that being the case - what's the minimum RDB version that
will even attempt to run with OpenVMS ALPHA V7.1?
Thanks
Mark

| I should add as well that we've done little testing/qualifications
with Rdb 5.1 on VMS 7 and later. If it works, fine. If you have
problems with how Rdb works, then, since you're using an unsupported
version, you may have to upgrade.
