| almost one year later....(see previous note)
My wife got a ticket yesterday on the truck that Rocky Mountain
Windowtint did last March. The meter tested it at 19 +/- 2.
RMW put on 27% film. What they neglected to understand/know/figure
out was that the new truck already HAS some tint in the windows.
Existing tint + 27% film == illegal. Since RMW doesn't have a meter
they have no way to test what they install as being legal. I guess
I'M SUPPOSED TO KNOW THIS BETTER THAN THE PLACE THAT DOES THIS AS A
BUSINESS. Geez.
My advice, go to someone that knows what they are doing, and can
meter the film with the glass on your car to make sure its legal.
RMW is not that place.
At least they've offered to replace my film with 35%. Hopefully that
will make it legal. We'll never know unless we are stopped again
and tested by the police.
Going to court in April on the ticket, hoping faulty installation on
RMWs part and my immediate repair of the problem, will reduce/eliminate
my $50 fine.

| I could add my 2 cents on Rocky Mountain Windowtint, but instead, I
will recommend Rocky Mountain Autotint. They do excellent work.

I deleted my original note 374.41.
To make it simple, I dont recommend Rocky Mountain Windowtint
and have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
If you want the job done right:
1) make sure whomever tints your vehicle meters it to be sure it's
not illegal. Just putting on 'legal' 27% film is not enough
for you to be sure.
2) make sure of exactly what kind of customer assistance you are going
to get in the event your tint has problems with either installation or
legal % testing.

| One last update:
If a window tint place installs illegal window tint on your vehicle
when you expressly have asked for it be 'legal', they can also
be cited. Theoretically, they aren't even supposed to install it if
you ASK for an illegal percentage tint, but most don't care. If you
can get a police officer interested they can go after the installer
for a $500 - $5000 fine. There are a few on the CS police force
who are highly interested in this sort of thing, especially when
consumers are getting the shaft.
I had my truck redone at Drive-In Auto Sound on Arvada down in
Motor City. They know what they are doing, and even did a better
job on the tint itself in terms of fit and finish. The cost was
$30 to strip off the old, and $130 for new tint with lifetime warranty.
The ticket my wife got was dismissed down at the courthouse when we
showed proof that the tint had been replaced to legal spec.

374.45 | 35 may be the standard nationally one day | TWOTOO::SMITHP | Written but not read | Fri Apr 18 1997 10:05 | 21 |
| FWIW
I recently had my windows done on my van and the installer
recommended nothing lower than 35 on the driver and pass
doors as there is a movement afoot to have this level set nationally.
As if congress doesn't have more important things to work on!
I followed his recommendation and had 35 on the front doors and rear
hatch with 20 on the sides. They metered the front doors while I was
present as part of the final check out. This was a Formula One dealer
in GA, they are nationally franchised and warranted, not sure if there
is one in Colo Sprgs. Cost was $220 for a Dodge minivan.
Make sure your dealer uses 3M or Courtaulds commerical films.
Courtaulds the largest film supplier and has many different grades under
different brand names around the country, be carefull. Avoid those $99
whole car/van specials when you visit Disney World in Florida :-)

I would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Windowtint. My truck is 8 yrs
old and they tinted the windows when I bought it. The tint and the
workmanship still look new. I have been pulled over by the police and
been checked. It passed no problem. My $02............Mike
