    Hello,

    Digital HiNote Ultra (I) CT475, 16MB
    MS-Windows95
    TeamLinks v2.5-003 and -004

    VTX - trying to access a page on the German VTX server (VTX-UFHIS0,
    ufhis0.unt.dec.com, 1243)

    Page from menu options: 5,9,1,3,2,1
    (Infoboerse, Vertraege/Formulare, ...)

    The following error messsage is (usually) displayed :

        TeamLinks Library Services

        A Divide-error exception occurred
        The client will attempt to free memory, clean network links and
exit.

        Register information:
        BP=55DF CS:IP=506C:8C42 AX=0269, BX=0000, CX=0000,
        DX=0000

    The page is quite a long (10-15 screens ?) plain text file document.
    Using a terminal emulator and character-cell VTX the page can be
    accessed without problem, which makes me think it is a client-side
    problem.

    Thank you.

    Iain.

641.1Also a bug with 2.7WELKIN::ADOERFERHi-yo Server, away!Fri Mar 21 1997 14:541
    I was able to reproduce this problem with 2.7
641.2acknowledgedGALVIA::DUKERonanWed Apr 02 1997 10:196
reproduced by VTX Engineering.

I'll look at it as time permits. Currently, it is quite low in priority as
there is a workaround.

I tried to view this page in debug with TLS V2.7 and in the the V6.2
character-cell client.

In the standard CC client, I can access the infobase but when I get to that page
(5,9,1,3,2,1), the client exits with the message:
"Current server is not responding,"

In TLS, I can see that the client starts to download the info from the server
but the server sends it what appears to be a zero-length message which is
interpreted as meaning the link has broken. The exception occurs when the
client tries to clean up this link which is actually still open. So there is a
client problem but the real problem I think is on the server side.

At this stage my guess would be that there's something in the page itself on the
server.

Can you re-load the page after ensuring that there are no odd/weird escape
characters in it ?

    Thank you for looking into this.

    I will (tomorrow) try to locate the people responsible for maintaining
    this information and ask them to re-load it after checking for weird
    chars.

to narrow things down, the problem seems to be about 3900 characters from
the beginning of the file, just after the phrase:
  "nderung eintritt,  mit der"

641.6file seems OKRTOMS::BRODIEIFri Apr 04 1997 12:574
    Thanks, I'll pass this on. The content maintainers found nothing wrong
    with the file after a preliminary check.

641.7File does look healthyRTOMS::BRODIEIMon Apr 14 1997 14:408
    Unfortunately, I can also find nothing wrong with the text file,
    viewing it either in a text or hexadecimal editor.

    Can it have anything to do with the large size of this file (35k, 877
    lines) ?

    Thanks, Iain.

VTX can take much larger files (up to 3500 lines) so that shouldn't be a
problem.

Can you make available a copy of the text file so I can copy it ? My guess
at this stage is that I should be able to load the file into a test
infobase and view it OK in any VTX client. Which would suggest that
a) the current infobase is somehow corrupt and that just reloading the text
file would fix the problem
or
b) the server is introducing the problem on the send. what version of VTX
is running on the server which serves the problem page ?

641.9Problem has disappearedRTOMS::BRODIEITue Apr 29 1997 11:165
    For no known reason the problem has now gone away :-(

    Thank you for your help.
