I'll reserve judgement until I see what other moves he makes. He
canned the DB coach which is a plus. He is suppose to retain the rest
of the staff but move them around into different spots. If he replaces
Perkins as offensive coordinator and hires a QB coach, I'll be glad
he stayed.

God, that thought occurred to me and I thought I was crazy. I agree
that right now I'd just as soon see I guy like Sam take a shot. One
problem I see is Parcells having his 7mil/year invested in a run and
shoot style quarteback when what he really wants is a control qb.
Bledsoe for Mirer and a couple of draft choices?

Not on your life. Stop showing your Catholic schoolboy bias! :-) :-)
Bledsoe isn't a run-and-shoot-style QB. He doesn't make reads fast enough.
Now, what would Al Davis give for a guy who can throw downfield like that?

Sam Wyche? The guy the hapless Bucs just fired? Sean, I think
you've been exceeding the recommended daily dosages of Robitussin.
Wyche would make someone a nice offensive coordinator but save one
SB *appearance* he hasn't done anything to show that he's a top-
flight head coach. You people are bailing on Tuna too soon. We go
10-6 last year against a pretty wimpy schedule and everyone starts
thinking SB. We take one step backwards and everyone wants Tuna's
head on a platter. Just chant to yourselves over and over again,
"Bledsoe, Martin and Coates."

re: -1
Good point......people tend to forget there was a difference in the
schedules....this team was in just about every game. Drew was hurt
most of the season like it or not. Parcells is still better than
anyone who's coached here in the past Decade if not longer...

| roland, when I say run and shoot I'm basically saying a guy who puts it
in the air a lot, to be honest the intricacies of R&S vs one-back etc
I'm not into. Segw'ing into my main point, I'm talking about the cap
economics and Parcell having so much invested in a qb who's main talent
is rifling it into the middle at 15-30 yards accurately.
Parcells seems more comfortable with a play action type from a catholic
college where he's obviously a lot smarter than his peers.
And finally I'll ask again, where is the evidence that Bledsoe could be
an Al Davis type, downfield hurler a la Jim Plunkett.

The same place where the evidence that he's a "run-and-shoot" QB is...

The hapless Bucs? The Bucs that got more wins than the Pats this
year?
Tampa Bay has failed with LOTS things, coaches and players included.
There's something weird going on down there, and Sam got caught in
it just like Steve Walsh.

How can I bail on him when I never supported him? *I* think you guys
are giving the Tuna more leeway than other coaches... He may have
won 2 SB's, but possibly maybe could it be perhaps isn't it at least
worth investigating that the game has passed this man by? How many
years is he gonna be the 2-ring coach? When does he get to be the
losing season coach? We don't have 7 years in this day of free agency
to wait for him to admit his mistakes. By then, everything's changed.
It took him a year to can Sisson, a year to can Butts, he dismantled
a winning team, he makes lousy GM choices, then says he's not the GM,
and still he's like some kind of God around the NFL. He did good, he
won a Super Bowl in NY! Great! Judge what he's doing in NE
pretending you don't remember that.
3 years of rebuilding, and he's pretty much at the same point the
Same was after 4 years of rebuilding. It's a draw, imo
However, I personally like Sam's coaching style. Always have. He's
smart, unafraid to change his point of view, and usually provides me
with some fun for my ticket $.

Not me. I didn't think 10-6 was all that hot. Especially because
we'd have been 10-6 the year before if it wasn't for 5 games that
Scott Sisson clearly lost all on his own. To me we had 2 years
of unimproved ball. Followed by a decline.
But we're on our way to a Super Bowl?
I never liked Drew, never liked Bill, so I'm not bailing on them.
I just don't understand what earthly logic is proving that Drew
is a franchise QB and that Bill can take *this* team to a SB.

>> The hapless Bucs? The Bucs that got more wins than the Pats this
>> year?
They had one more win than the Pats and in terms of scoring only
the Jets were worse. The Bucs this week will be doing the same thing
the Pats will be doing - watching the playoffs on tv. And our 10-6
record last year? The Bucs would love to have had it because they
haven't had a winning season since Anna Nicole Smith wore a training
bra. Wyche took over a mediocre team and he left them somewhat better
but they still couldn't crack .500. If Tuna must go then let's get some
new blood and not a retread who has never won anything anywhere. Still,
it amazes me that after 30+ years without a SB win Tuna is a bum because
he can't produce one in three years.

That's what happens when you get paid the big bucks. Everyone
expects you to be faster, better, more productive than the
ones that don't. Goes for coaches, too. We could be watching
the playoffs on TV with Coach Mac and Zolak as well as Bill
and Drew for a lot less money, ya know :^)
And I didn't say Tuna was a bum. He's a coach I preferred not
to have.
A lot of the things I used to enjoy about watching the Pats are
gone now, except the losing part. Same for Drew. I'd rather
see Joe Ferguson busting his gut playing QB with 2 broken
legs than Drew looking like he just woke up from a nap on third
and goal.
Partly this is entertainment. I watched a lot of great seasons
that the Pats lost. That's what made '85 so fantastic.
When we go now, somehow it won't be as fun with an NFC coach,
a bunch of overpaid underacheievers, and NY Giants uniforms.

| Roland I said forget the term run and shoot - what I meant by that was
simply a quarterback that could put it up a lot and complete a bunch
of short passes, isn't that what we all concede that Bledsoe can do.
What I don't concede he can do is complete the long bomb a la Al Davis
simply because I haven't seen him do it very often.
As far as making quick reads you're probably right, that is the
consensus except to make a judgement on that from the living room is
pretty tough.
