George E. Mattson's SHUBUKAN KARATE comes to Digital - MRO2

Starting in October Digital will offer its employees a unique 
opportunity, when one of the nation's oldest and most respected 
schools of the Martial Arts will begin teaching weekly classes at the 
Marlboro facility (MRO2).

The school, George E. Mattson's SHUBUKAN, is the descendant of the 
Mattson Academy of Boston that began teaching Karate in the United 
States Four decades ago.  The style of Karate taught is Uechi Ryu, a 
unique form of Okinawan Karate that traces its roots through central 
China back to the Original Shaolin Temple.

Unlike many styles of Karate that have traded their more esoteric side 
for a more commercial sport or tournament oriented focus.  Uechi Ryu 
retains the classic Chinese balance between physical strength and 
subtlety.  Like all classical Martial Arts, Uechi Ryu is grounded in 
centuries old traditions and principals of Chinese Medicine.  The 
SHUBUKAN teaches proper structure and posture, development and 
manipulation of internal strength or Chi, as well as many beneficial 
breathing and stretching exercises.  By building and educating the 
entire individual, mind, body and spirit, Uechi is an awesome form of 
self defense suited to anyone at any fitness level.

Instructors Steve DiOrio and Enrique Mitman have over 30 years 
combined Martial Arts experience.  Steve holds black belt ratings in 
Aikido, Shodokan and Uechi Ryu Karate.  Enrique has a black belt in 
Uechi Ryu with over 18 years experience.
