HIGHLIGHTS

	- 16 contestants showed up for the third annual Kimball's Challenge.
This surpassed the previous high of 9 in 1993. While the record
time set in 1993 were not met, the contest did have its
	  highlights.

	- Rob Dupcak became the first repeat winner and moved into first
place all-time for most specials consumed in competition lifetime
with 6. Rob was awared a t-shirt AND retired after the
	  competition was over.

	- Stephanie Miller became the first female to complete 2 Kimball's
specials and as a result won the newly created WOMENS DIVISION.
	  Stephanie was awarded a t-shirt.

	- Dave Krakauer was the surprise contestant. He completed 2
complete specials and about 95% of a third. Had he beaten Rob
Dupcak through three specials, he clearly would have won the
competition. Rob was in no shape for that fourth special. Dave
is the odds on favorite to win the 1995 competition and he will
begin his training this week. Of course, if he trains all year,
he might experience serious weight gain.

	- Dick Lawrence, a spectator, practicing for the upcoming 1995
Kimball's Nature Challenge consumed a live bee that landed on
	  his special.

	- The "Pig Pen" award goes to Duane Galbi who consumed 2 specials
but left a large portion of each on the table.

	- The "Creative Consumer" award goes to Stephanie Miller and Andy
Barber both of whom used propane heating devices to melt the
ice cream. Of course, the strategy backfired on Andy who tried
to melt his special in boiling water. Andy was forced to consume
not only the special, but the water as well.

	- Scot Hildebrandt failed in his attempt to remove 5 minutes from
his time by using a little known loophole. The loophole allows
for a 5 minute deduction of time if a special is consumed with
day or older duck sauce spilled on top of the special. Rob
Dupcak was sitting next to Scot when the duck sauce hit the
special. The aroma, was, well, Rob started looking for a new
	  seat.

	- "Fido" the wonder dog, half dalmation half lab, fetched firewood
to keep the bored spectators amuzed.

	- Various spectators were disappointed that Steve "Hollywood"
Hale was not present to flex his superior upper body strength.
Apparently, Steve is captured on video during the 1992 Kimball's
Challenge changing into his championship t-shirt.

	- The first tag team entered the contest and consumed three specials
	  - representing SEG Staff Bill Laprade and Hossein Faridzadeh. As a
result a new relay division has been added for the 1995 Challenge.
	  (See Rule 9).

	- Apparently the owners of Kimball's noticed the fire damage to
the picnic table and are seeking restitution. I made sure that
they were given the appropriate telephone numbers.

Rules:

	 1. Each participant must consume as many Kimball's specials
as they can in the specified time limit.
         2. The Kimball's special must contain the standard toppings
	    and ice cream.
         3. The winner will be determined by who has consumed the most
FULL Kimball's specials. Only full units will be counted.
In other words, 2.9 specials consumed EQUALS 2.0 specials
            consumed.
         4. Time limit will be 1 hour.
         5. There is no rule 5. (It will be added after the contest if

	    RELAY DIVISION.

        11. Kimball's specials will be purchased by contestant's
            team.

Previous Winners:

	1994 - Rob Dupcak	- 3 specials (MENS DIVISION)
Stephanie Miller - 2 specials (WOMENS DIVISION)
        1993 - Rob Dupcak - 3 specials
        1992 - Steve Hale - 2 specials

TRADITION dictates that the winner must eat something substantial after the
competition has been completed.

	1994 - Tradition broken
1993 - Rob Dupcak consumed a Whopper with EXTRA pickles!
1992 - Steve Hale consumed bagels and made sure that Tim Shedd
saw this. Tim Shedd was in his office on the floor,
               sleeping and in pain.

> A Kimball's Special is a deluxe ice cream sundae. It consists of
> three scoops of ice cream (the largest scoops you can imagine -
> between 1/4 and 1/2 gallon of ice cream total per special), three
> toppings (strawberry, pineapple, fudge) and whip cream. The record
> of just over three minutes is truly awesome.

> This would be too easy for the manly SPORTS noter. I was thinking more
> of a triathalon... it would consist of the following... eat 3 chilli
> dogs, run two miles and then hit the sled course, then eat one
> Kimball's Special. Fastest time wins.

Would vomiting be allowed, or would that be a disqualification?

Then how does your record time stand if vomiting isn't allowed?

Our group wussed out... no coops were worthy of the event. My car
was in the shop or else I would have come to watch.

The record for our group is 3:35. No puking. Eating at the all you can

The best thing is that the price is quite reasonable in comparison to

The final official results have not been tallied but the 1996 Kimball's
    Challenge was held last friday.

The previous record time for consuming a special was 3:06. While the
record did not fall in the individual category (with 3:08 being the
best time), the record was shattered several times in the new relay
(4x4) category. The record fell not once, but at least 3 times, and
possibly as many as 5 times (I don't have the official score card with
me). Everyone was amazed when the record was trimmed to 2:02 (THAT IS
NOT A TYPO), but then that record was trimmed to 2:00 and then again
to an amazing 1:44. Have you ever seen a Kimball's special. To eat
one in 5 minutes is obscene! TRY EATING ONE IN 1 MINUTE AND 44
    SECONDS.

I will post the final results and the official record book later this
    week.
