Hi, I'm an OLD Rally Buff, yeah few of us still around, but I play with other stuff, anyway, where's Rally heading (down the toilet?) is there a future version that is visual with multi db connect driver capability. This might sound strange but I love Rally, but its all but dead in Australia, anyone out there heard anything about futures? Thanx

While we do love RALLY (I have been associated with RALLY since X1.0 :-), and it does have a great architecture it would require significant engineering investment to keep up with trends in 4GL's such as web and JAVA. The direction today (and this was discussed last year at Oracle Openworld) is to continue to support existing applications (so there will be ECO releases of RALLY) and to provide a conversion tool from RALLY to Developer/2000 (this is a consulting service I believe). This ensures investment protection and enables the use of a new generation of client/server applications. e.g. It was recently announced that the forms in Developer/2000 can be used for Web applications. As for the explicit question "visual with multi db connect driver". Rally already does multiple database connects. Ian | |||||

Ian, my question may have been too hasty, the nuts of it was will Rally go any further and evolve along the lines of other Visual tools e.g. VB, Developer 2000,Delphi et al. In essence you answered the question. |
