| Every month Paradise Sales is sponsors a Personal Protection and handgun safety
class. The next class will be held April 25th through the 27th.
The Course objectives are to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude
necessary for the safe and proper use of a handgun and provide information on
the citizen's right of self- defense.
The class is designed to help you become more familiar with the different types
of handguns and ammunition on the market and to provide you with the knowledge
for safe and proper handling.
The course will include 12 hours of instruction on handgun parts and operations,
ammunition, safety, cleaning, storage, loading procedures and shooting
fundamentals.
You do not have to be an NRA member to take the class nor do you become an
automatic member after taking it. NRA membership information can be provided
upon request.
You do not have to own a handgun or go out and by one after the class. Paradise
Sales will provide a revolver and ammunition if you do not have one for the
class. Should you decide to purchase a handgun once you've completed the

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just took this class last weekend and thought I'd give some feedback:
I have no absolutely no reservations recommending this class to both
non-shooters and experienced shooters alike. The class starts with basic
handgun marksmanship and safety so even if you have never picked up a firearm,
you'll be right at home in this class; there are no prerequisites. In addition
this class goes out of its way NOT to teach "buy a firearm" -- what it does
teach is the information required to allow the student to make an intelligent,
informed decision if they wish to buy a firearm for recreation, protection, or
perhaps not at all.
Of course non-shooters will get far more out of the class than experienced
shooters, but if an experienced shooter keeps their mouth shut and their mind
and ears open, they'll come away with a lot of excellent information, especially
from the lethal force section taught by an attorney.
The class runs about 18 hours total, starting at 6:30pm on Friday and Saturday
evening and 9:00 am on Sunday.
Through a fluke, my class, which typically runs about 20 people had only three
people. Paul cares enough about the class not to cancel because of a small
class and ran the class anyway -- he took the small class as an opportunity to
further hone the skills of his cadre of instructors and helpers (numbering over
20 at this point in time -- though he only had about 12 of them out for the
three of us :-)).
The other two students, both women (one a Deccie), had no complaints about the
class and were very happy with the level and quality of instruction. Both
mentioned how any fear they had of firearms was now replaced with both knowledge
and respect; I suspect their previous fear was borne out of ignorance, rather
than information.
The non-Deccie had a problem with her left hand, and the instructors worked with
and around the handicap/physical disability/physical challenge/whatever to allow
her to successfully and accurately fire a firearm.
Personally I saw a lot of smiles on both of them on Sunday, the day we were
shooting; they had a lot of fun and their excellent hits were indicative of both
their receptiveness to the training and the quality of instruction.
So again, I'd recommend this class if you're thinking about becoming a firearm
owner, want to become a firearm owner, you're a new firearm owner or even if
you're an experienced shooter who wants to improve and/or learn more about the
legal aspects about self-defense using a firearm. In other words, this class is
for just about anyone.

For non-shooters. My sister-in-law is dead set against using guns
or knowing anything about them in any way. One day her son got up
in the closet and got my brother's pistol. She took it away from
him---and it went off, ricocheted off the bed rail, and came within
an inch of her son. Moral of story: Even if you don't use guns,
you should know how to safely handle one.

Something I point out to parents is that if you don't have any guns in your
house you've limited your kids access to guns -- in your house only.
Just like teaching swimming in case your kid falls in a pool, kids should know
what do do (more importantly what NOT to do) if they should come upon a gun.
