5633.12Good load for M45 Firestar?VMSNET::RRICKI'd rather be fishing!Thu May 15 1997 20:5414
    Well, I picked up a .45 acp FireStar and had real trouble keeping it on
    paper at 15yards (25yard target). Used Remington UMC 230gr hardballs,
    factory loads.

    I wanted to try a compact autoloader for potential carry, but if I
    can't hit anything with it, I might as well use it for a hammer.

    I did like the heavy, solid feel of the gun which is why I choose it.

    Anybody shooting one of these, and have you found an accurate load for
    it?

5633.13Lotsa a fun...WMOIS::GIROUARD_CFri May 16 1997 07:0714
    i have a .40 FireStar and love it (for what it is). It's pretty much a
    pointer. What amazed me about the gun was that it's fairly mild to
    shoot aside from its size. My guess would be that the heft of the
    piece, as you mentioned, benefits a great deal.

    I wouldn't expect a lot of accuracy from it. When I go playing with it
    down to the range I will usually bring some silhouette targets. I'll
    rool them out about 25' - 30' and just burn some lead. I will generally
    put the sights on the lower head/neck area. This brings the hits in the
    center torso area.

    I love shooting that thing.

5633.14Will try 200grVMSNET::RRICKI'd rather be fishing!Fri May 16 1997 10:527
    Chip,
    Thanks for the comments. I may try some 200gr hollowpoints and see how
    they shoot. I have a can of 200g lead semi-wadcutters that I loaded up
    recently for practice ammo & will see what they do, also.
