1037.55 | New LEG match classification | VMSNET::RRICK | I'd rather be fishing! | Mon Feb 10 1997 19:37 | 16 |
| The Director of CMP, Gil Gilchrist in his column in this month's
SHooting Sports stated that there will be a new classification for LEG
matches for those shooters using unmodified, as issued, service rifles.
That has to mean unbedded M1 Garands for civilians, as issued by
DCM/CMP. I think this is a good move, as the Garand shooters can't
compete with the hot M16/AR15 shooters, particularly in the rapid fire
stages and rattle battle.
The US Army Marksmanship unit, in setting a new course record, fired
over 40 rounds per man from the 600 yard line in 1 minute last year
with M16's.
I'm waiting to see the exact details of this new classification.

Yes, This is a good thing.... :^)
I recieved my SASE back from the CMP in Oct 1996 that they recieved
my packet and am overly anxious allready. The class you mentioned
would be just the ticket for us beginner's.
It was interesting shooting beside people with match bolt action
rifles, M1A's AR's ect with a club loaner rifle that I met just 5
minutes before the match.. What, pressure....:-)
Still had a blast though and can't wait till next season.
Can you give me some details on "shooting sports" is it monthly,
does it cover all shooting sports, ect? I've never seen it before.
Maybe a tel number to get a trial issue from?
Thanks,
George

It is the official listing of all NRA matches.
Price: $5/yr if you are a registered competitor (shot 3 matches
& got a classification card)
$10/yr if you are otherwise a NRA member
$15/yr otherwise.

1037.58 | DCM Match & LEG Points | VMSNET::RRICK | I'd rather be fishing! | Wed Feb 12 1997 16:32 | 19 |
| In a LEG Match sponsored by DCM/CMP, only military service rifles are
allowed. You shoot for LEG points. There is not a NRA classification
system. The top shooters get points towards a Distiguished Shooter's
Badge.
All LEG matches are also NRA approved/sanctioned matches. SO you may be
shooting next to a match rifle shooter, but they are shooting for
practice, not in the LEG/DCM match.
However, the non-service rifle shooter does accrue credit towards the
DCM/CMP Garand program regardless of the type of rifle he shoots. This
confuses many people. A match or clinic held for the express purpose of
shooting the shots for Garand purchase may not be a DCM LEG match.
LEG matches are part of the 'Excellance In Competition' EIC program.

Recieved my CMP M1 Garand last week...
Sent in qualification packet last October, recieved send $310 now
letter 4/24 & recieved rifle last friday 5/9. It was nice to get
a M1 Garand delivered to my door from a US postal worker... :-)
I couldn't be happier... Recieved a late manufacture all matching
International Harvester that is in excellent condition inside & out.
It was probably never issued at all... Beautiful walnut stock and
hanguards with only a few handling dongs, 99% metal finish and a
nice shiney bore.
Looking forward to shooting withg it this year...
If anyone else is interested this is a great program to support..
Get em' while you can....!

Sounds like you got a good one.
Now's a good time to stock up on 30-06 ball ammo. Cases of 1,000 rds
can be had for $200-210.
Here's the web page for DCM/CMP if anyone's interested:

George:
IH Garands are poorly constructed and dangerous. Billary told me so.
The only possible thing that I can do is sacrifice my personal safety
and take this dreadful, dangerous firearm off your hands.
Send to bss::proctor_r before it's too late! The faster you send this
dangerous machine to me, the happier I'll be... er... I mean the safer
you'll be!

congrats on a good gun.. you should enjoy it for many years...

1037.62 | M1 cost going up to $400 (rumor) | ZEKE::SMITH | | Tue May 20 1997 08:57 | 19 |
|
Thanks for the offer... I'll keep it in mind :-)
Actually I don't think I'd even sell it at double or more of what
I paid. I've been like a kid waitng for christmas ever since I
sent in the original packet... :-)
Read a CMP rumor in recguns.com last night that as of 10/1/97
the M1 price goes up to $400.
The person posting the note didn't know if that was application
recieved or payment recieved by 10/1.
Still a bargain but $310 was better... The cheapest I ever heard
them goin for was $165...
Get em while ya can...
