Any news on the Florida SB42? This is the bill recognizing valid
out-of-state carry permits. It was supposed to be brought out on 4Mar.

ed,
The legislative session opened on the 4th. My understanding, as a Florida
resident, is that the Senate commitee that was looking at the bill had released
it, but it had not been scheduled for a vote. The companion bill on the House
side was still in commitee and I've no idea when it might be released for a
House vote. After it is passed by both legislatvie bodies, Gov Chiles has to
sign it before it becomes law...
If you're asking because you're coming to Florida within the next few months
and would like to carry while you're here within, I think the legal process is
not going to turn fast enough for you this year. If that changes, I'll be the
first one to announce it to the world. Oh by the way, Florida does allow a
loaded firearm in the car provided the firearm is "secured" where "secured"
means in a latched container (such as glovebox or briefcase) or in a holster
with a secured strap (but not on your person.) The only caveat is don't take
it out of the car....

We usually make a trip to Florida once a year to visit relatives and
would like to bring our own firearms. Our relatives have several of
their own that we shott at their club. But this would allow us to
shoot our own. We probably won't be there till latter this year.
Does the transport law apply to non-residents as well as residents?

Yes. We treat our visitors with dignity. Check out the NRA's web page for
the specifics (www.nra.org).
