I feel sort of funny asking about a knife such as this, but I miss it.

About 3 yrs ago I lost a pocket knife I carried for 10 yrs. While
cutting my orange the other day with a Gerber my father gave me to
replace it, I realized maybe I should ask here. I don't like the feel
of the Gerber and Dad won't be offended, he found this one.

About 1985 while in Bar Harbor Maine, I picked a 3 3/4 inch blade
pocket knife. The handle was made a "Petterified Walrus Tusk, dug up
while digging the oil pipe line in Alaska" Ya, ok. It was lightly
engraved with a whaling scene (which to my joy, wore off soon). The
blade was marked, Star of India. This was a trading ship which was on
tour at one time. I believe it stopped at Salem, MA. I haven't gotten
there yet to check their stores. I think it was made by that renouned
blade maker, National of Japan (I hear those snickers). I've check a
couple of books but came up blank. The blade was not straight on the
unsharpned edge, but flat side and the sharp side met in the middle.
The point of the blade (when open) was in a straight line with the
center of the handle. I always refferred to the handle as "coffin"
shaped but that's not exactly it's look.

It was a fair amount for a college student (my wife was at UM Orono)
Maybe $25. It is so thin, you'd forget you were carrying and held a
wonderful edge. I have plenty of pocket knifes. You see, my mother
dragged me throught flea markets and antique stores as a kid and we
were aloud to collect something. My sister collected milk pitures,
mostly cow shaped, and I collected pocket knives. This was by far my
    favorite.

    Thanks!
