2641.0. "Question on automatic recovery" by M5::LWILCOX (How about Fireworks?) Mon Jun 02 1997 12:38
I'm sure this is a whole lot simpler than I'm making it, but I have questions
on automatic recovery of DBMS AIJ files. I am using extensible. I turn
journalling on then do a backup, do a transaction to add data, then delete
my database. Then I restore with DBO/RESTORE/LOG/NOCDD and DBMS does
not find the AIJ with the needed sequence number. That kind of makes sense
because I have a new AIJ created on the restore and that has a new sequence
number which is one higher than the one it needs.
So, I did another transaction, now going into the higher sequene # aij file.
Then I deleted the database again and did DBO/RESTORE/LOG/NOCDD/NOAFTER
and DBMS did recover the previous AIJ file with sequence #11, but it did not
recover the AIJ file with sequence #12.
I guess I'm unclear on why DBMS can find sequence 11 in the second case but not
in the first case, and why in the second case it does not go ahead and then
recover sequence 12 after doing 11.
I'm sure this is extremely basic stuff. (and aren't you glad you didn't
call the CSC and get me today?) :-).
Thanks.
Liz
