2639.0. "Bad checksum experiences" by ukvms3.uk.oracle.com::LWILES (Louise Wiles, UK Rdb support) Fri May 30 1997 07:00

    Hi,

    DBMS V6.0-2
    Alpha VMS V6.2-1h3

I have a customer regularly getting checksum problems with DBMS & Rdb,
and I've sent them the checksum explanation article.

They have a new system which Digital have now checked out & brought up
    to the latest revision levels.

    They have the following configuration:

2 AlphaServer 5100/5300's connected via HSI DSSI. The devices are
    RZ29B's & RZ28D's served by an HSD50.

Knowing about the problem with RZ29's on Alpha, they have applied
ALPSCSI04_062 which is supposed to fix this.

They're not looking at DBMS or Rdb as the culprits, but I wondered
whether this configuration rings any bells with anyone who has either
spoken to a customer with similar problems or seen them.

    Thanks,
    Louise.

Louise, do the checksum problems appear in multiple file types, i.e., .DBS and
.SNP? or do they seem to attack just one file type? I'm just curious because
I have a customer with just snapshot checksum errors, but a problem in this
area was fixed long before the version he's running.

    Hi Liz,

    It's the .DBS files.
