3153.0. "XAPI toolkit and prereqs" by IJSAPL::DEWIJK (GJ from the Dutchlands) Fri Mar 21 1997 19:31

    Hi,

When a customer wants to develop an own XAPI program.
What does he need on his development system?

From the SPD I read 'VMS and DECnet OSI'

    - Why does he need OSI?
    - He does not need the MTA itself?

    Thanks for a clarification.

Hi GJ,

If he doesn't have the MTA locally, then he needs the MTA Base Subset, which
is mainly the XAPI shareable images, which are linked against. These, I
believe, use OSI to talk to the MTA. Note 2665 has some words on this.

    Hi Grahame.

To me, your note and 2665 are in contradiction to each other.

2665 tells me that the mta base kit can talk to an MTA without the need
of OSI in the mta-base system.

But the bottom line is that besides VMS and OSI also the MTA base kit is
    required?
Does this mean that the SPD is wrong?
And I still don't understand why OSI is required, obviously the mta
base kit does not requires it anymore...

Who can shine a light on this..

This isn't an official statement, but assuming you have:

Node A: agent application, MTA base kit (specifically MTA$XAPI_SHR.EXE)
  - talking to -
Node B: Full MTA

then I believe node A does not need OSI; DECnet phase IV will do. Node B will
however need DECnet/OSI, if for no other reason than that the MTA uses DEC
X.500, and that product requires DECnet/OSI.

    Hi Scott,

    thanks
so for a development only system.

the mta base kit will be sufficient.
