Hi, On a customer system SMTP-Gateway (X2.1-3) could not deliver a message from Internet to X.400. The non-deliver report created by SMTP-GW says "mta_transmit_msg: mta_error = 70" What does code 70 mean? Are these error codes documentent somewhere? Here is more information: The user (klas.molin) sent a message within CC-mail Message sent from CC-mail -> Isocore-Gwy -> Mailbus400 -> SMTP-Gw -> Internet Recipient was a person at company dti.com. The message could not be delivered at dti.com. A non-delivery was sent back to our customer. When the non-delivery message came back to SMTP-GW it generated the non-delivery with "mta_error = 70". SMTP-GW could not deliver the non-deliver report. A copy of this message was sent to the system managers account on a HP system. When he attempted to forward the mail to his mail address on Mailbus400 (HP -> SMTP-GW -> Mailbus400) the SMTP-Gateway generated another non-deliver message with "mta_error = 70". He had to save the message to a file on the HP-system, and then send the file as a attachment to a mail message to transfer it to Mailbus400. Node: hugin & karon - is the firewall (one system with two nodenames) orion - The Digital-UNIX system with SMTP-GW hermes - the HP system. Below is a dump of the message. 3142.3 | An O/R address isn't a string | ZUR01::ASHG | Grahame Ash @RLE | Tue Mar 04 1997 08:00 | 11 |
>This looks like valid O/R addresses to me. What do you think is wrong? Well, of course it depends on what tool you're using the dump the message - it looks like the output from xtua, but perhaps it isn't? Compare the Originator and Recipient Names to the MTS-ID and the Trace records. What you have displayed is the "human-readable" form of the o/r address - the String representation. In the message itself, an O/R address has to consist of separate strings: ADMD, Country etc. grahame | |||||

Hi, Ok, I agree. I dont know what tool the customer used to decode this message. Here you will see the O/R address in "normal format". Here is the non-deliver message that was sent by SMTP-Gateway. This is a copy that was sent to the system manager on a HP system (node hermes). Below that is the X.500 entry for user Klas Molin. Any idea where I can look up what "mta_error = 70" means? That error message corresponds to MHS_INVALID_OBJECT_CLASS meaning that the message that was about to be handed over to the MTA was not explicitly either an IPM, Probe or Report i.e. the message created by the gateway was not of a valid type. Are the illegaly formed linebreaks in the bodypart boundaries of the non-delivery message that the gateway is non-delivering a transcription error, or is the gateway being presented with illegal MIME by [email protected]? (i.e. the following lines are badly formed) Content-Type: multipart/mixed; Boundary="=================== =========_ _= 5111389(268)" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7BIT --======================= =====_ _= 5111389(268) Content-Type: text/plain If this is not the problem, try reproducing the error with full trace enabled on the SMTP Gateway. +Mark+ |
