On a UNIX (3.2C) platform: We have a customer who has to re-install DECNet to bring it up to DECNet 3.2B - he wants to know how big a job he's in for. In particular, when he removes DECnet 3.2A, does that remove links between MAILbus's NCL commands and DECNet's NCL? When he re-installs DECNet 3.2B, will the MAILbus NCL commands work again, or will he have to re-install MAILbus after installing DECNet? (And while I'm at it, does anyone know if the same applies to X.500?) Thanks, Stan Neumann

hi Stan, deinstall MAILbus 400 MTA MAILbus 400 SMTP Gateway if you have Digital X.500 Directory Services in short, everything what you manage with ncl. then do the DECnet upgrade and afterwards reinstall the above products and edit/copy start_mta.ncl. therefore it's a good time to upgrade everything you can to the latest ECO's and check whether it makes sense to go to UNIX 3.2G too, at the very beginning of the upgrades. check /sbin/osi_applstartup after you've reinstalled X.500 whether the order is still: # %dxdSTART% ... ... # %dxdEND% # %dsaSTART% ... ... if there is also X.25 in use to a public X.400 service provider i.e., then have also an eye on that. maybe someone has a hack how to do it without reinstalling the messaging products, however the above is the official procedure. regards markus |
