A customer has ALL-IN-1, MAILBUS, traditional DECnet and UCXV4.1
We can set up the VMSmail to forward incoming internet mail to A1, but
need to figure out how to set up the message router so they can
address mail as:
address@internet
And have it go via MRGATE to the internet.
I know, it's not clean, but can it be done? how would
one set up the alias in MRMAN etc.
Thanks!

| 3207.1 | one thing works, how to automate it? | PTOJJD::DANZAK | Pittsburgher  | Thu May 22 1997 16:23 | 27 |
Well....
So far I can:
FORward users in VMSmail to:
MRGATE::A1::all-in-fun-username
And, in ALL-IN-fun I can address to the internet as:
SMTP%"internet address"@mrgate
Now, can I teach message router to take an internet address
formed like:
"internet address"@internet
and have it act on the "@internet" qualifier to substitute the
SMTP/MRGATE things above?
Any takers for this?
Thanks,
j

| 3207.2 | not a good plan, IMHO | 26120::ogodhcp-124-40-168.ogo.dec.com::kennedy | nuncam non paratus | Tue May 27 1997 17:50 | 18 |
I don't think that either MR or MRGATE has the address rewriting capabilities you need to do this. It also adds additional message translation in pretty much the worst place (both MR & SMTP support multiple bodyparts in a message, but VMSmail really doesn't - so you're likely to lose attachments in the process). I think the recent releases of ALL-IN-1 may support SMTP directly (or is this still in the future?), which would be preferable. The PMDF product from Innosoft is widely used as a gateway between ALL-IN-1 and SMTP. Both of these options would likely provide a much better service than using MRGATE. You might want to also ask this question in the IOSG::ALL-IN-1 and/or LASSIE::UCX conferences. | |||||
