Hi, Is there any problem/restriction using one Message Router machine serving other two ALL-IN-1 (Alpha) machines ? I mean, if this is technically possible is there any performance restrictions ? Message Router is in a MicroVAX 3100, 80 MB Memory. This local database holds about 500 entries, but WSN has 40,000 entries. First ALL-IN-1 Alpha machine is an AlphaStation 400 4/233, 384 MB Memory, 500 subscribers. Customer is planning to configure another ALL-IN-1 Alpha machine (I think AlphaStation 1000) to hold more 100 subscribers, who are being migrated from an ALL-IN-1/Message Router (WSN) machine. So, those 100 new subscribers will overload MicroVAX 3100 because most of their mails and DDS access will go to the ALL-IN-1/Message Router (WSN) machine. They are being migrated to improve performance of this machine and the new ALL-IN-1 Alpha machine cannot be served by this WSN because this Message Router is v3.2. They cannot upgrade this Message Router Version because there is another third party software not allowing upgrade of OpenVMS. Thanks for any reply. Armando

Alpha*STATIONS* with 500 users? What do they do, all get in line? (I mean, aren't workstations supposed to be single user systems?) There are a number of performance studies around; a number of factors affect the answer to your questions, like how frequenctly are these remote users actually accessing DDS?, and how much concurrancy... You might want to check in the ALL-IN-1 conference for pointers. BTW, MR V3.3A was released for VMS V5.5-2 - are you saying they can't upgrade even to V5.5-2? Geez... Dave |
