3251.0. "How to read function keys in VT510 with a barcode" by BARNA::DSMAIL () Mon Apr 07 1997 03:43
I have a question about reading barcodes with a VT510 terminal.
My customer has a barcode reader (I don't know exactly the model)
connected to the VT510 terminal, and he wants to read the function keys. He has
no problem to read until F12, but he doesn't know how to reproduce the F14, F17,
F18, F19 and F20 sequence in barcodes.
I think he is reading in extended code 39, so he reads ".Y" with the
barcode and it does the same effect as reading F12 from the keyboard, but i
don't know the correspondence between this "extended code 39" and F14, F17,F18,
F19 and F20.
He asks me which is the ASCII code of the F17, F18, F19 and F20 but I
think there is no ASCII code sent when the emulation is VT510, is this correct?
Thank you in advance.

If you want to know what codes the function keys send, do this:
$ mcr jamin::user1:[osman]echo
then hit the function key in question.
(If you're on alpha, use "echo_alpha" instead)
