I'd like to plant a small tree of some sort that stays relatively short but is pretty to look at. The area is outside of my side entrance which is used as the primary entrance to the house. It's also in front of the gate to my back yard. I planted a blue spruce in the area 3 years ago but the more I think about it I realize that at some point that spruce may block entrance to the back yard. The area is about 15 x 15 feet, 30 feet away from the neighbor. I'll move the spruce elsewhere... I'm also mindful of keeping the neighbors property clean. | | ________/ _________|(fence) | | (fence) ! | | ! | / <15 ft> ! | | * ! | | (property) (neighbor) (house) line

Fruit trees stay (or can be kept) relatively small, but then you have to deal with the fruit... A flowering crab might be a possibility. Also, japaenese maple's stay relatively small. | |||||

Japanese Maples are nice but how hardy are they...it's like a wind tunnel where I need to place the tree. |
