| how close to the stem/trunk of your shrub do you need to
fertilize ? my hemlocks have leaves and pine needles around the
base..should i rake to fertilize and get it close to the trunk
or can i just water further out knowing that the roots reach out...

409.18 | I wouldn't fertilize at the base. | BASEX::EISENBRAUN | John Eisenbraun | Wed Apr 16 1997 12:27 | 6 |

I've always heard fertilize at the drip line - that's where the small
roots that absorb the fertilizer are. The drip line is where water
drips from the leaves/needles when it rains.
