7224.0. "Windows 95/NT multiple copies in duplex on LPS17/600" by DOOSJE::HERTA (For something fulfilled this hour, loved, or endured) Tue Jun 03 1997 10:47

Windows NT V4.0 SP2, Windows 95, LPS17/600

If a file contains an odd number of pages, and you request multiple copies of
that file be printed in duplex on an LPS17/600, the even numbered copies start
at the back of the last page of the odd numbered copies. E.g. if you request
two duplexed printouts of a three page document, you get the following output:

copy 1 page 1 is on sheet 1 front side
copy 1 page 2 is on sheet 1 back side
copy 1 page 3 is on sheet 2 front side
copy 2 page 1 is on sheet 2 back side
        etc.

I asked about this in the Windows NT conference. Dave Levy tried the same thing
on an LPS32 and found it worked correctly. He suggested it might be a problem
with the print driver. Can anyone please confirm? Any patches/workarounds
available?

Kind regards,

Herta

Well sure, it could be a driver problem. It could also be an
application problem. Please tell me what application you are using and
exactly how you are selecting multiple copies and duplex. What drivers
do you have installed and are you printing through a server (on the
Windows 95 clients) or possibly through an OpenVMS system.

Looks like you are right. I'm having problems printing from MS Word,
but not from Notepad.

Thanks, Tim.

On second thought, I'm not surprised that it fails the way it does and
I'm not convinced about where the problem is yet. On the other hand, it
should fail in the same way on the PrintServer 32 so I don't know how
Dave Levy got it to succeed.

Re. .3:
Dave Levy said he couldn't reproduce the problem on a LPS32. Neither of us
mentioned which application we were using because we did not think about it
being an application problem.

Based on some info I saw in the ORION::WINWORD conference (topic 851),
I checked the technet CD. MS claims it works this way by design. I'd love
to hear the designer's arguments ...
