7202.0. "LN08 Toner detection problem" by TROU96::M_LUK () Thu May 15 1997 14:03

    Hi,
This is a re-visit of previous note 7022.
    I thought that I found the problem of LN08/Declaser 3250 won't detect
toner out. But I was wrong.
    Once again, the symptom is:

    	- Display 921 indicates toner low condition.

    	- LN08 will reset it's toner cartridge page count to 2000 properly.

    	- Toner cartridge page count will decrement from 2000 while
          printing continues.

    	- As per LN08 service manual that when another 750 pages printed
after toner low registered. It should stop with display 922
    	  which is toner out.

    	- In Math. term, that translates to toner cartridge of
(page 2000-750)=1250. I would expect it should stop at count 1250
          but it is not.

    	- Instead, it will continue on until print quality suffers so much
that customer has to replace the toner cartridge. I was using
those "expired" toner cartridges for testing which lead me down
the garden path. It was because each cartridge has page count
of couple hundreds pages left. Sure enough, LN08 will and must
stop when page count reached zero while testing. That is why I
thought I had the problem resolved.

    Questions:

    	- Should LN08 stops at toner page count 1250 ?. And why it keeps
on printing passing that magic number even customer is using ALL
DEC's supplies. (LN08 had been swapped more than once for this
          error).

    	- Are we dealing with Toner cartridges problem again ?. Because my
customer here will try to squeeze more pages out of each
cartridge that most users may have already changed toner long ago
so that no known similar problem reported.

    	- By running toner cartridge status test on "expired" cartridge
with several hundreds pages leftin it's page count. The status read
          like these:

    		Test 282.05
    				T:1$20	2$10	3$09
    				  1$20	2$10	3$09

    		Test 282.08

    				T:ID=20:95/10/03

    				----------------
    				| |
    				----------------
    				 ^
    				 |---- This status block/indicator shows
    				       all "highlight/dark"

Does it means machine thinks it is
    					still full of toner ?.
    					And what "1$20, 2$10, 3$09" means ?.

I apprecaite very much if someone could share his/her ideas especially
    folks from node Regent.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mathew
