7199.0. "Does LN17ps work on Digital UNIX?" by GOYA::GALAN () Tue May 13 1997 04:01

I'd like to know if ln17ps printer is supported or not in Digital Unix.
    What I see is:
    - LN17ps features appear Digital Unix as operating system supported.
    - PrintServer software for Unis is not needed because LN17ps is not a
    PrintServer.
For those reasons, I think Digital Unix should include the correct
driver to work with LN17ps, but it doesn't appear in the Digital Unix
SPD, and the filter is not included.

At this moment, the customer tries to use the LN17 with LAT.
They have tried with all the ln_r filters coming with Digital Unix
(they are running 3.2D-1), because there is not a ln17ps specific
filter. In this way the results are:
    - they can print ANSI text (with banner),
    - but not PostScript files.
They have to print both types of files, and with banner.

Could someone clarify to me if LN17ps is supported on Digital Unix?
If yes, what must we do to print PS and ANSI files (with banners)?

Set up a two remote lpd queues (by the way this is ALL in the NIC
documentation. In one queue's definition in /etc/printcap, the rp entry
should be PASSTHRU. In the other the rp entry should be TEXT.
Please, observe case as these are case sensitive.

TEXT is for ascii. PASSTHRU is for PostScript and PCL.
