7196.0. "LN17ps and Windows NT not printing correctly" by CSCMA::RUSSELL () Mon May 12 1997 15:08

HI,

I have another LN17ps customer problem. I have not been able to get this
printer to print from NT.

LN17ps = 10 MB
PCL emulation=5e-1.3.1-950915
Postscript = 2.26
Service_name=DEN107427_1

I asked the customer to set the parallel menu and ethernet menu to match our
ln17ps printer. Still makes no differance.

Parallel Menu
system language = postscript
lang. sensing = off

Etherent menu
system lang = postscript
lang. sensing = on

Problem statement:

On NT server v4.0 is the system we tryed to send the job. but prints garbage
(raw postscript data) We are using the latest ln17ps drivers that are available
on the internet.

NOTE:
Customer is also using the declaser 5100 driver to print pcl jobs to the ln17ps,
the pcl jobs prints fine with this driver.

ln17ps drivers are used to send ps files only. but they still print the raw data

This customer still needs a resolution, if someone could help this customer
it would be appreciated.

Customer is Lockheed MArtin Aeronautical Systems

Thank You,
Lynda Russell

Why is language sensing ON on the Ethernet port?
(If that's where the misprinted jobs are being received, that's the problem.)
(Do the drivers in question use explicit PJL commqands to switch protocols?
If so, then there is no need for printer-based language sensing, and you
should turn it off.)

    We changed the settings on the control panel so that Ethernet menau
    has lang=postscript, lang sensing=off, we cannot get anything to print
    at all, including PCL jobs, when we set the lang sensing=on, we can
    print PCL, but no postscript. We tryed different settings just to see
    if we could get the posstcript files to print. Still no success.

    My customer has a Dec field engineer coming onsite sometime today,
    we plan to remove the queues/drivers and start over again. Will
    update this note with the results.

    Thank YOu,

Where are the PS files coming from?
Are there sufficient clues in the files to indicate that they should
be sensed as PS files? Do they start with '%!' (percent exclamation)?
If there are drivers creating the files, then I would expect that
they would be okay for sensing, but if they are custom files, they
might not be.
On the other hand, if the drivers are set to generate binary PS,
then maybe they aren't sensible.

    Ps files = printer setup, printer's test page from WNT-Alpha v4.0

    Print drivers = were copied again from our website

    test pages, appears in the spooler directory, job dissappears
    and appears that it was sent to the printer.

    From this the printer would flash "ready" but never get the test page.

    Also note that on a few occasions when trying to print the test page
    that the "ready" would not flash at all. But we saw the job go to the
    spool directory. then to the printer, no output.

    Note: customer says that the "form" light never flashs during any of
    the test's we did.

    Thank you,
    Lynda
    always, customer tryed printing the test page several times
    only a
