7191.1 | Saw a different problem | TAY2P1::HOWARD | Whoever it takes | Tue May 06 1997 16:53 | 7 |
| Someone in our group reported that he had new firmware. His problem
was that he couldn't reboot the printer after TELNETing in.
Unfortunately, he didn't resolve that problem and he has left the
company. This probably doesn't help you, but you asked if anyone had
seen the new firmware. . . .

| Oh, boy. Please escalate, Renis. I've forwarded your note along.
The new version of the LN17 firmware was enhanced to support the
mailbox option.

7191.3 | A possible workaround, setting IP address and tlenet | NECSC::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Tue May 06 1997 18:11 | 8 |
| I went over how to setup bootp on the customers VMS/UCX server and
they will try giving the printer a ip address. Then they will try and
telnet in to the printer and setting the LAT group codes.
The customer will work on the workaround in the morning as they had a
major VMS problem that took priority.

| I have two LN17s here, both running 4.14 firmware. One's LAT service
name is the DNE brand and one's is the XNE brand. I tryed yesterday,
and I can access BOTH via mop. So lets make sure we understand the
problem before we jump to conclusions.

| I've got to correct my earlier post: the firmware versions cited are
for the network card, not the base printer, so the mailbox reference is
irrelevant. It does look like there's a new NIC firmware version out
now, though.

7191.6 | The NIC card has the new firmware | NECSC::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Wed May 07 1997 12:53 | 13 |
| Tim, Jeff,
Yes the firmware versions I cited are for the ethernet NIC card. I
contacted the customer this morning and she is still cleaning up from
some system problems that occured last night which took priority over
the printer problem.
She is now setting up bootp on her VMS machine to load a TCP/IP
address in the LN17 printer. I compared our LN17 configuration data to
what her printer had, and the only difference is the NIC card firmware.

| The problem has been identified as a manufacturing problem. I have
worked with Renis and we have identified a solution for the customer.
The greater manufacturing issue is being addressed as we speak.
