7172.0. "Colorwriter LSR 2000 from Windows 95" by CSCMA::HOLLAND () Mon Apr 21 1997 12:06

I just spoke with a customer who was quite unhappy to learn that
the only way we support printing from Windows 95 to the LSR2000
is via a parallel connection. Are there plans to support printing
to this printer from Windows 95 via TCP/IP over Ethernet?

She has the printer working from Unix and VMS via TCP/IP. She
would be willing to spool through VMS to go to the LSR2000, but
she does not have Pathworks running. She has TCP/IP and Excursion
    on the Windows 95 system.

If support for printing from Windows 95 via TCP/IP over Ethernet
is non imminent, is there a simple way she can spool through VMS
to the LSR2000? She does not consider copying the file to VMS and
then submitting it to the print queue manually to be a workable
    solution.

    Thank you.

    Liz,

In addition to the configurations you describe, you can also set up a
Windows NT server to connect to the Colorwriter over TCP/IP or
AppleTalk and then have '95 users connect to the NT server.

There aren't any immediate plans (or even long-term as of this writing)
to support direct TCP/IP printing from a Windows 95 client directly to
    the Colorwriter.

One simple way of spooling through VMS is to install Pathworks for
Macintosh on the VMS system and use DCPS v1.3 over AppleTalk to connect
to the Colorwriter. (We do that here.) DCPS v1.4 will not support the
    Colorwriter over TCP/IP.

[Technical note: Unlike our other network printers, the Colorwriter
doesn't support a RAW port over TCP/IP, which is required for the
Digital Network Port (DECPSMON) on Windows 95 or DCPS v1.4.]

    Hi Tim

In the previous reply, you mentioned:

"DCPS v1.4 will not support the Colorwriter over TCP/IP."

I believe that our current (pre-DCPS V1.4) choices to print to the
Colorwriter LSR 2000 from OpenVMS are:

    o DCPS V1.3 + AppleTalk
o lpr/lpd (from UCX or other source)

What will change in V1.4, if anything? We want to get DCPS extended
printing functionality, but we don't want to use AppleTalk to get it.

    Thanks!

Nothing changes with the arrival of DCPS v1.4 with respect to your two
    bullet items.
