| This has been discussed before here wrt making the intel 3.51 drivers
available on an intel 4.0 server. We've not yet seen a solution.

| Actually, there has been a solution available for a while to this
problem. Pick up the latest Windows NT printer drivers on the PSB
InfoCenter WWW site (and also refer to the document included in the
archive with the NT 4.0 printer drivers). If this still doesn't work.
please give more details of your configuration and specify which
drivers are failing.

7164.3 | Not if Server is 4.0 and client is 3.51 | RDVAX::LEVY | Run Like an Antelope | Fri Apr 18 1997 16:01 | 40 |
| As I tried to explain in note 6991, your solution may work well when the
server is 3.51 and the client is 4.0, but I've got it the other way around.
It was much easier to upgrade our servers to 4.0 than to get the users
coordinated on a migration to the new desktop environment.
With these drivers installed on a 4.0 server, I cannot get it to install
alternate drivers on any of the printers.
Here's a step-by-step dialog for you. I'm doing this on my workstation,
but the same thing happens on our Print Server system.
First, I use the Digital Network Printer Setup Wizard to create a queue. I
call it LPS32-TEST and it's IP address is 16.151.72.111.
Now, I make sure that I have the right drivers.
I go to Properties in the queue and pick New Driver.
I point to the share where I've put the update kit.
It finds the Digital PrintServer 32 plus.
I select Replace existing driver.
When the system prompts for files from the NT distribution, I
provide a pointer to the kit (I have it on a share).
The driver is updated.
I share the printer and it now shows only the NT 4.0 intel driver
installed.
In the Alternate Drivers windows on the Sharing sheet, I select Windows NT
3.5 or 3.51 x86 and press OK.
The system says "Alternate drivers cannot be installed.
The printer driver is unknown."
I tried stopping and starting the Spooler. Same thing.
I tried rebooting the system. Same thing.
How should I be doing this?

| Um...
Your example uses the PrintServer 32 plus drivers. I thought we were
talking about the Colorwriter LSR 2000.
And I *thought* we had the problem solved, at least here in the lab, in
both directions. We'll have to go back and look at this again next
week.

| And, for the record, what versions are on the systems in .0? (DBATES?)

V4.0 server
I have now installed the latest drivers from the web, and it appears
to have worked i.e. I didn't see any errors.
