7161.0. "Colorwriter LSR 2000+ cannot print from Windows NT" by 18649::RUSSELL () Tue Apr 15 1997 13:30

Hi,

I have an irate customer that is totaly frustrated about this lsr2000+ printer.

I thought I could fix the problem, maybe it was the way he had the settings
for lpd....

ex)
RM: Ip name or number for the lsr2000
RP: xjdirect (in lowercase)

But he says HE was the one that told Digital about this in the first place.

The problem is when printing from NT (v3.51) Service PAck 5, including
the latest print drivers off the interent as of yesterday.

When printing from NT, he gets the same error over and over

"error writing to "portname" for the document write "file.ps"
"data are passed to a system call is too small"
"retry or cancel"

Note: he can print from W95 and VMS with no problems at all.

Any ideas about how to fix the error would be appreciated.
    Tks,
    Lynda

Is this the same customer as in topic 7159?
7161.2still a problem18669::RUSSELLWed Apr 16 1997 11:4415
This is not the same problem as topic#7159.

The customer has his printer setup correctly.

The syptoms are when he pulls up a postscript document(1 pg file/),
then selects print, the print manager shows "spooling" then the
event viewer shows "xjprint print is requeing, source is lpr port"

The print drivers are the latest that are on the internet. The NT
spoller has been stopped and started, etc. Still cannot get this
    printer to work from NT.

    ANy ideas?
    Thank YOu,
    Lynda

    16MB or 32MB printer?
    Intel or Alpha system?
You said xjprint in .2 and xjdirect in .0, which is it?
Had this worked on an earlier release of Windows NT?
The messages also seem to be different between .2 and .0...

It is a 32MB printer, the RP:xjprint. I made a typo in my last note.

This is a new configuration, the customer just added the printer
to the NT server (3.51 SP5).

I'll find out if thisis an itel or alpha system.
    tks,

Now i feel liek the fool.

I could sworn the customer told me this was a 32MB printer,
but in fact it's a 16 MG lsr2000 witht he the RP set to xjdirect.
The systemn is an Alpha 266 excel.

sorry for the confusion, it's hard to get information from a customer
that is not willing to talk or share information with you.

we finally got the info correct,

    customer has an Alpha Nt server v3.51 Sp5. It's a 16MG printer,
when he adds the RP:xjdirect, he types the information in lowercase,
though after it's added it appears in uppercase.

any other ideas would be appreciated,

Have you determined which error behavior occurs? The messages in .0 or
the respooling in .2? Or both?
7161.6more info18669::RUSSELLFri Apr 18 1997 11:086
yes, the error behavior is both .0 and .2, we saw .0 behavior when
sending a job, then .2 behavior on another day when we tryed to send
a 1 page file to the queue.

    Thanks,
    Lynda

Have you filed an IPMT with an appropriate priority so that dedicated
resources can review the problem as well?
