7119.0. "ln14/3500 parallel print problem" by AOSG::MONTAGUE () Mon Mar 10 1997 17:01

I'm stuck on getting a DEClaser 3500 (LN14) working off the parallel port
on my Celebris XL5133 running WNT 4.0 with service pack 2.

I've used a 10' cable since there are notes that hint that longer cables
will not work. I pulled the latest drivers from the printers group web
pages and used those when I installled. I can print a straight text file from a
MSDOS command window. I am unable to print the test page from the configure
printers widgets. I can print throught the lat connection on the NIC on the
back of the printer ( when the pathworks print services are runnning) just
fine.

The printer:
DEClaser 3500 PostScript version 2014.103
              PostScript Revision 76
Total Ram 5.0mb

Parallel Comunication port
 interpeter Automatic
 mode IEEE-1284

Network communications port
 interpeter Automatic

The system:
Celebris XL5133dp with 48mb memory wnt 4.0 with sevice pack 2 installed.

PSCRIPT.DLL    225,488 bytes 4.0
DC3500_1.PPD 47,232 bytes (no version info)
PSCRPTUI.DLL   179,471 bytes 4.0

Since I can print from the dos window, that seems to be a fair test that
the motherboard,interface,cable, and printer hw are good. If I use the PCL
driver then I almost get a good test page. Again this seems to indicate that
the hw is good and that my problem is with the non-pcl drivers?

Any thoughts of what to look for/try next?

7119.1Use a 6' cableAOSG::MONTAGUEWed Mar 19 1997 09:1410

	Solution: 6 foot cable

	Reason: Digital Equipment Corporation has chosen to engineer
		a parallel interface on the Celebris unit that is
		sub-standard compared to other vendors, and the 10'
		cables are themselves junk.
