7118.0. "Future for printing migration" by NECSC::HARVEY (Printserver Support- America's Zone) Mon Mar 10 1997 13:29
Not intended to force customers to stop using VMS products that we
Digital still make money on but.....
What products or any known utilities that customers can use to print
like DCPS does with layup, setup modules, etc on Digital UNIX or WNT?
We are fielding more and more questions related to customers migrating
from VMS to UNIX and NT. The print features that customers relied on in
the VMS world are plain not here for these platforms.
When a customer is told that they will need to run their files through
the "lpspr" utility with various options and pipe them to the print
queue. They answer "WHAT !!". "NO, I just want to setup a print queue
that will automatically do it for me!" or "Our user community just
wants to print their reports in landscape and to use a reduced CPI"
Ideas? Any thoughts of porting DCPS to Digital UNIX, other unix platforms
and NT? Or just a bullet proof report print utility, that a customer can
configure to print landscape/portrait, 80-200 characters per line, and
xx lines per page, etc.
