| Please check two things.
Make sure the name "xjprint" is in lower case. Windows NT may not display the
case correctly later, but it is displayed in the correct case when entering the
value. If in doubt, delete the queue and enter the values again.
If you have a 16 MB printer, the name to use is "xjdirect" instead of "xjprint."

7103.2 | lower case typing helps! | UTOPIE::PUCHINGER_G | GERHARD PUCHINGER @AUI, DTN:*754/2553 | Wed Mar 05 1997 05:20 | 12 |
| Paul,
thank you for your suggestions.
Indeed it was the problem of typing the xjprint in upper case.
I would have tried to type in lower case also, but i could not remove
the port. To do so i had to reboot the machine which was not possible
at this day.
Anyway, the customer tried and it worked for him too.
So you spotted the cause correct.
Thanks again,
Gerhard

| I hope someone can help me with the same problem I am having.
Our LSR2000 is named LSR2000
This is the name that appears next to PRINTER NAME on the Configuration
page.
When I set up an LPR port from NT to either LSR2000 or lsr2000,
I receive the reject messages.
Should I rename our printer to lsr2000 (lowercase) or something different?
Many thanks
David

7103.4 | use xjdirect or xjprint in the rp field | NECSC::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Wed Apr 09 1997 12:21 | 17 |
| David,
Depending on how much memory is installed on the LSR2000 will make
a difference how to setup a LPR queue. It is documented in the LSR2000
manual for a 32MB priter, the LPR queue is as follows:
RM: IP host name or IP address of the LSR2000
RP: xjprint (notice its in lowercase)
For a 16MB printer this is not documented in the manual:
RM: IP host name or IP address of the LSR2000
RP: xjdirect (notice its in lowercase)

7103.5 | Use the IP name! | REGENT::DODSON | | Wed Apr 09 1997 12:34 | 3 |
| As indicated in .4 it is the IP name that you use in setting up the
printer not LSR2000 unless that is the name assigned. See your network
administrator for this name. You can also use the address instead.

LSR2000 IS the assigned ip name and the printer has 32MB
I tried using xjprint instead and it worked
Thanks very much

| Perhaps it's not the problem in this instance, but default names
associated with devices that may have more than one instance should ALWAYS
be changed before you go too far in installation.
If the name LSR2000 (for example) gets included in some data base like a hosts
file or such, then a second installation or even a re-installation of the
same device can cause problems with mismatched name and address resolution.
Just use reliably unique names and you can head off a whole class
of problems like this.

7103.8 | RP field needs xjprint or xjdirect | 18669::HARVEY | Printserver Support- America's Zone | Thu Apr 10 1997 12:09 | 12 |
| Tom,
The most likely problem was that .0 didn't use "xjprint" in the RP
field when setting up the queue. This is the most common problem that
we have been seeing in the support center.
That is until the 16MB printers started shipping. There is nothing
in the DOCs that mentions that "xjdirect" needs to be used instead of
"xjprint".
