My customer use the H8400-ab (serial To parallel converter box) with LN17N-AP and connect it to a terminal server port, and be able to have DCPS working on this configuration ????? I have tested fine these commands , copy/log file.ps ltaxx: copied sucessfully , with nic card and logical dcps$queue_name_no_sync "1" and DCPS works fine , but if I use directly by DCPS this converter box on terminal DECSERVER port this queue is in starting state permanently with or without dcps$queue_name_no_sync "1" (this command it's for disable the flow control). I would like to known if this configuration it's really supported , and if it does works , because this configuration with 3500 or 5100 are not supported. Thanks indeed for any ideas Gerard-Louis Lereuil

Hi , more details in the SPD DCPS 1.3 do you have a note Printing through a Centronics parallel port is not supported and in the SPD 1.4 DCPS the Bi-Directional centronics parallel port interface is supported !!! thanks in advance for your help Gerard-Louis
7101.3 | May or may not work through the converter. | HANNAH::KAMATH | Wed Mar 12 1997 10:57 | 27
Hi, I have not tried printing through this converter. I am trying to understand your setup and take a logical approach to your problem. DCPS V1.3 does not support printing through parallel port on OpenVMS. This is because the parallel port driver on OpenVMS is not bi-directional. If you have connected the parallel interface of the converter to the parallel port on OpenVMS system then it is not expected to work. Suppose you have connected serial interface of the converter to the OpenVMS system then it may work. In this case it depends on the converter and type of parallel port on the printer. If printer parallel port is bi-directional one and the converter also has a bi-directional parallel port support then it is most likely to work. We have not planned for parallel port support in DCPS V1.4. If you have such request(s) from your customers please send a mail to the product manager. -Harish Kamath.

RE: .0 What pins are you using from the DECserver to the H8400-ab? I was working on the H8400-AA, and it seems that if I just used Transmit, Receive and Signal Ground, and using Software Flow control, it does not work. I experimented with Pin 20 connected and Software flow control , and that seemed to work. Connecting all the available pins/signals from the H8400 to the DECserver, and using Hardware Flow control, seems to make it work also. Hope this helps, Bobby C. |
