7098.0. "Error installing PrintServer SW on W95" by CSCMA::HOLLAND () Tue Feb 25 1997 09:58

NASA is trying to install LPS V5.1-1i on a 486 which is running Windows 95.
They have successfully installed it on another machine, but want it on this
one because it is near the printer and is part of the same subnet.

The customer chose a complete installation, both print and configure.

The installation gets to the point where it says:

	"PrintServer load files will be placed in the following directory:
		c:\win32app\decpsmon"

Then the error occurs:

	Setup has encountered a problem. Please report file = 'common
	/list1.c', line='1013' to Microsoft Support Services

One of his Microsoft certified coworkers insists this is not a Microsoft
message.

The machine he is trying to install on is a 486 with Windows 95. They did a
custom installation of Windows 95 and wonder if the problem is due to a
component which is part of the standard installation not being present on
this machine.

The only other reference I found to this error was in note 6594 of this.
conference. In that case a customer was trying to install LPS software on
a Mac which was running Softwindows. My customer is using pure Windows 95.

Has anyone else heard this one before?

Thanks.

7098.1needs statusNECSC::RUSSELLTue Feb 25 1997 16:076
    The customer at NASA was asking for a status. HE needs to setup
    the PrintServer from this NT box, but needs to know how to correct the
    error first.

    Thank you for any information you can provide.

    Is the customer installing the SSB kit or the patch kit??

7098.3Both kits fail to installCSCMA::HOLLANDThu Feb 27 1997 15:4611
    The original error was with the SSB kit.

    He tried the patch kit also. When he tried to install it he got
    back the following error:

    	GetModuleFilename() did not return a full path

    He then tried to install the patch kit on the PC where he had been
    successful in installing the SSB kit. The same error occurred.

7098.4still cannot load v51-12i.exe NECSC::RUSSELLThu Mar 13 1997 13:2311
    I now have a support call open with the same customer from Nasa,

    We copied another patched v51-12i.exe kit to the nt v4.1 system,
    We reinstall the kit, when the procedure asked for "Complete Installation"
    we select it, the following error is returned and the install fails....

    "couldn't read dist path error=18"

    Thanks for the help,
    Lynda

7098.5Install dummy LPS printer queue firstNECSC::HARVEYPrintserver Support- America's ZoneThu Mar 13 1997 14:599
    Lynda,

    	This is a problem where the LPS install can not get access to the
    NT 4.0 distribution CD. Have the customer install a dummy LPS printer
    queue using NT's printer setup wizard. This will install the
    pscript.dll and related files onto the NT server/workstation. Then
    install the LPS kit again. It should fly this time.

7098.6install fails with "overflow" errorNECSC::RUSSELLWed Mar 19 1997 14:3915
    Hi,

    after installing the dummy printer queue from NT, the install now fails
    with and "overflow" erro.

    We select the "complete install" option, we launch the "printer wizard"
    and then it fails. The dialog box only shows "overflow" error.

    The C: drive has enough space, it does not exceed 1.8GB.

    The NT version is v4.0, build 1381 if that makes a differance.

    Thanks for the help,
    Lynda

7098.7Restart the wizard, Install workedNECSC::HARVEYPrintserver Support- America's ZoneWed Mar 19 1997 15:559
    Lynda,

    	If you are running the printserver setup wizard then the LPS 5.1
    kit installed on the NT server. The overflow error is from the setup
    wizard? I had one of those yesterday while trying to start the wizard.
    Just restart the wizard again.
