7092.0. "DEClaser 3500 and Connecting status in Windows 95" by MLNCSC::DEPOLIG () Mon Feb 24 1997 06:22

Hi,

a customer of mine has some Windows95 users that print on
some LN14 (DEClaser 3500) via Digital Network Port (tcp/ip).

All works fine, but when the printer remains without paper
and the jobs fill the print buffer then the print manager
sets the next job in Connecting status.
If paper is added to the printer the job remains in Connecting
status and it isn't printed; reboot is needed to clear the
print manager queue.

I have reproduced this problem with this configuration
PC: Celebris GL 5133, Windows 95 sp1
printer: DEClaser 3500 3Mb + NIC v01.38
file: notes_en.txt (by excursion v3.0 kit)
applic: notepad

if only five or six papers are in the printer tray and I
print three times the same file from notepad the third
job remain in print manager in Connecting status,
it is impossible to cancel or pause the job; after rebooting
the job is in pause status.

If DEClaser 3500 is connected via parallel port all
works fine.

I have enabled the Digital Network Port loggin
and I have noticed of some errors like:
returning SOCK_E_TIMEDOUT from .....
and
returning FALSE from .....

Can somebody help me to troubleshooting this problem ?

Thanks in advance

Gino De Poli

7092.1I can't get even that farSHRMSG::HOWARDBenMon Feb 24 1997 16:3711
You are ahead of me. I cannot find a 3500/net driver for Windows 95 at
all. I've tried creating the port with the 5100/net driver, but it
doesn't print at all. Where did you get the driver, or did you do what
I did? I remember having this problem a long time ago, but somebody
else had created the printer. We never got it working and the user
left the building. Lately the 3500's have been working ok from NT,
which has a /net driver, but I some users want to go direct from 95.

The printer works fine from VMS and NT.

7092.2Similar to NT problemsSHRMSG::HOWARDBenMon Feb 24 1997 18:0610
I did get mine working. I used the "Have Disk" option to install the
5100/net driver from a floppy. Then I changed the Port Type to
"DEClaser 3500 or 5100 Ethernet Card (via TCP/IP). If I try to use the
existing 5100 driver again, there's no "Add Port". I guess I could add
it from an existing printer, but that is sort of crude. I'm concerned
about .0, wondering if it might fail when it runs out of paper. I know
we have had problems with the NT spooler getting hung up when things
like that happen, although it is usually when the problem is prolonged.

re .2

Hi Ben,

if you install W95 from cd-rom kit there are some DEC printer driver
"/Net" ( the floppy kit doesn't have them ), I have installed
"DEClaser 5100/Net" driver and in <Properties> <Details> <Add Port>
<Other> <Digital Network Port> I chose "DEClaser 3500 or 5100
Network Card (via TCP/IP)" port type and all works fine .

re .0

On WNT 4.0 the problem doesn't appear.
Can somebody tell me if the NIC firmware upgrade could fix this behaviour ?

Thank.

Do I have to open an IPMT ?

Thanks.
