7073.0. "PrintServer Software - Support For NT 4.0?" by MKOTS3::HAHN (SBU Americas Technical Support Group) Thu Feb 06 1997 13:52

Does PrintServer Software support Windows NT 4.0? The SPD (48.09) does
not mention V4.0 - only Windows NT, V3.1, V3.5, V3.51.

Thanks,
 Dave

    Dave,

    	There is a special LPS kit that will install on a NT 4.0 system.
    See note 6.215 for the kit location, you will need the V51-12I kit for
    NT 4.0 systems. This is of course internal use only. If you have an
    external customer they will need to contact the CSC for help on this.

    However there are two install bugs that need to be mentioned. The first
    is related to how much free space is on the NT system disk. If it is
    greater than 1.8GB free the install of LPS will fail. Had one customer
    that had 15GB free space. The work around is to fill up the free space
    until the magic 1.8GB.

    The second bug is related to the install not finding the generic
    postscript drivers from the NT distrubution, even with the CD mounted.
    The workaround for this is to create a dummy LPS printer queue with the
    printer setup wizard from NT. After the queue is created then install
    the LPS kit.

7073.2A follow on questionINTONE::BONAZZOLIThu Feb 06 1997 15:307
    I have installed the LPS51-11I on NT V3.51, and it is working fine.
    I now want to upgrade to NT V4.0. Will I need the LPS51-12I kit, or
    is this required only for a new install on NT V4.0?

    Thanks for the help,
    Rich

7073.3I would install the kit to be sure....NECSC::HARVEYPrintserver Support- America's ZoneThu Feb 06 1997 17:098
    Rich,

    	If you have the LPS kit already installed and are just upgrading
    to NT 4.0 it might be safe to install the LPS51.12I kit too. This way
    all the correct files will be in place instead of moving/copying files
    related to the LPS kit around.

7073.4Some reasons whyNECSC::HARVEYPrintserver Support- America's ZoneThu Feb 06 1997 17:137
    Rich,

    	The main reason would be to update the registry data and to place
    the DECPSMON files in the WINNT40/SYSTEM32 directory. You could do this
    manually. This way the old WINNT35 stuff can be purged to save space.
