Well, it took longer than it should have but we have a new kit and
installation instructions available. The problem was that the name of
the printer drivers were different between the '3.51 and '4.0 printer
drivers and that caused the obscure failure.

There is a new Windows NT 4.0 supplemental PostScript printer driver
kit on both the internal and external WWW sites. The kit includes a
document describing in detail the procedure for installing Windows NT
4.0 printer drivers on a 'NT 3.51 server.

Thanks for the note. I pulled the kit and successfully used it to
install 4.0 and 3.51 drivers for an LPS17.

However, I still have the same old problem with my LSR2000 printers.

Your instructions address the issue of an NT 3.51 server with NT 4.0
    workstations.

My environment is exactly the opposite. Our Server is 4.0 and most of
    our workstations are still 3.51.

I am unable to add the 3.51 drivers to my 4.0 server. When I try to do
so, I get the error as documented earlier in this string.

    Any ideas?

Hmmm, there could be one of two things wrong:

    - is the CD you are inserting at this point the *3.51* NT CD, not the
      *4.0* CD?

    - we could still have a naming problem in the other direction. There've
been a few versions of NT printer drivers floating around. If you
have the new 4.0 kit, then the Colorwriter printer driver should have
installed as "Colorwriter LSR 2000". What does the Windows 3.51
driver install as? Actually, if you edit the PPD file on the '3.51
kit and look at the *ModelName tag you will see it.

It never actually gets to the point where it looks at the 3.51 CD. The
error message comes up before it can be done.

Perhaps I should go through step-by-step and document what's happening
again so that it's clear (to both you and me) what is going on.
