2958.0. "IP routing through W95?" by COMICS::CORNEJ (What's an Architect?) Fri Jun 06 1997 07:07

Maybe this is an obvious question - if so, please point me at the
    right FM to R :-)

I use W95 and RAS to dial in from home. Is there any way to route IP
through the W95 system from another system on the same ethernet as my
    W95 system?

I have a fuzzy recollection of people in here using something called
Wingate to do what you're trying to do. Have a look through this
conference or search the web for it.

I did a quick web search for you. Here is an FAQ file on WinGate.

Wingate works like a charm too... and the best part is that a license
for one PC (ie, one PC being routed through the other) is free.

Only one problem with WINGATE...

If you want to get into Exchange on your second PC (i.e. the one
without the modem in it) you'll have to constantly update the port #s.

My WINGATE setup works great for telnet sessions, NETSCAPE, etc. However
Digital's implementation of Exchange uses dynamic port assignments.

WINGATE needs to know what port #s to proxy through the modem, so I have to
reconfigure WINGATE everytime the exchange mail server reboots if we want
to access exchange from the 2nd pc.

Since Wingate is free for a 2 PC home LAN, you really can't complain too much
though...
