2955.0. "Drive letters change on reboot" by TUXEDO::WRAY (John Wray, Distributed Processing Engineering) Thu Jun 05 1997 10:06
I have a Win95 system with two drives on my primary IDE channel, and a
Syquest EZ135 drive on the secondary channel. My D: drive has several
partitions on it. On a reboot, the drive line-up usually looks like
this:
C: (IDE Channel 1, Master)
D: (IDE Channel 1, Slave, Primary partition)
E: (IDE Channel 2, Syquest)
F: (Extended partition on D-drive, first logical drive)
G: (Extended partition on D-drive, second logical drive)
However, occasionally I see the following line-up:
C: (IDE Channel 1, Master)
D: (IDE Channel 1, Slave, Primary partition)
E: (Extended partition on D-drive, first logical drive)
F: (Extended partition on D-drive, second logical drive)
G: (IDE Channel 2, Syquest)
Any ideas what might be causing this behavior (and how to cure it)?

Do you sometimes NOT have a disk in the SyQuest drive?

| And/or is it possible that you've formatted one or more of the Syquest
disks to have primary partitions on them?

No, I checked that. I always keep a cartridge in the drive on reboot.

I think all my Syquest disks have a single primary partition on them,
but I'll check that.
