2942.0. "How to update a server kit of Win95" by LIL04::DANEL () Thu May 29 1997 10:46

    hi ,

    I want to update a server kit of Windows95 ( kit installed with
    netsetup) for new drivers of printers or netcards.

    If i try to use infinst.exe and select the inf file of the floppy disk
    that i want to install , the infinst copy all the files on the kit w95
    but it can't update inf files like custom.inf or layout.inf.

    Microsft answered that infinst can only be used to install components
    included on the cdrom(MS) and not to install tiers components.

    I must update the kit because i install W95 in automatic mode , and the
    printers needed are not included in the kit.

    Can you help me .

    thanks didier DANEL (OMS)

2942.1modify installation script(s) to accomodate this?SUBSYS::MSOUCYMentalmETALMikeFri May 30 1997 12:2515

    Hi,

    I don't know much if anything about what you are trying to do, but what
    about editing the script that is used by infinst? Can this be done, if
    you know what you need to tweak? This sounds like the simplest way to
    go about this. When I create floppy install kits for stuff internally
    after I copy the files across the net I read the install.ins file to
    see what goes where and copy them accordingly. It works/worked. Now
    that I get the directories (sometimes) over the net I just copy it
    entirely and do the install from the network now. Nothing standalone
    though, strictly for kit installations for test purposes in the lab.

    hi Mike ,

    I understand your idee , but the installation of windows95 is
    full automatic and remote .The Printers section of the inf file
    for installation must contain the driver name and the location
    of the printer (Lpt1 or UNC) , during the installation Windows95
    only know the path of the source kit.
    I must update the source kit or install the printer after
    the W95 installation !....
