2925.0. "win95 device naming" by SIOG::T_CUNNINGHAM () Fri May 09 1997 11:13

I have a query re device config under WIN95.

    CONFIG:	C:IDE HARD DISK
    		D:HP CD DRIVE SURESTORE
    		E:HP OPTICAL DRIVE
    		G:NETWORK DRIVE

When I try to add second hard drive 2gb pci scsi (buslogic adapter)
as say f: it adds a second hp optical drive at that drive letter.

I have to call it H.. to read it.It also has to be set as a
removable drive in order to read it.

Does WIN95 support this number of drives and is there any
    order drives should be set.

    thank you...

Win95 supports as many drives as there are letters. On my network at
home I have mounted all hard drives and CDs from four systems at once on
the server node, making the last drive "P" (and no gaps).

You would be better off to reconfigure the system so the hard drives
are at the bottom of the pile (C&D), then the optical drive and then
the CD. I'd put in a couple of gaps between the magnetics and the
optical, and another gap between the optical and the CD - so the next
time you add a drive you won't go though this again...
