Note 2889.0 Newer S3 driver hangs my 450ST with Stealth 24 No replies

I read in one of the PC-related conferences (don't remember if it was here,
in PC 95 or
DECstations) about how the S3 driver in www.S3.com allows you to change
refresh rates.
I have a Diamond Stealth 24 installed on a 450ST with W95 and (I think) all
appropriate patches.
After DL and install the driver lists as
S3 Inc. 801/805
It hangs my PC. I can move the cursor but everything else in the screen is
frozen. The original Diamond Stealth 24 driver works OK.
Anyone else has seen this type of problem?
I do not remember exatly which S3 chipset the Diamond Stealth 24 is
using, but you should use the Diamond Stealth 24 drivers either from
Windows 95 or from The Diamond NMultimedia web site
http://www.richer.com/trade/d/diamond/profile.html
Do not allow the Windows 95 to autodect the graphics card.
Thank you
and
regards,

| Thanks Sam,
As I mentioned in .0, the original Stealth 24 driver works fine, I was
just trying to get added functionality (refresh rates options), because
every time that I go down to 800x640 the screen flickers.
The Diamond web site (www.diamondmm.com) says to use the drivers that come
with Windows95, which I'm using, but the S3 site has newer drivers
dated around Feb 96, and is the one that is causing my PC to hang.
BTW, the Stealth 24 uses the 801 chip. I looked directly at the board.

The problem is that Diamond MM probably use their specific DAC that may
have problem using the generic S3 drivers.
