  A while back there was a discussion on this issue, with the resolution
  that if you didn't like it then use some other terminal emulator.
  Has there been any progress on this?

    ...and what's the deal with the backspace key on hyperterm.  It's just
    like the old terminal tool that came with windows, so I guess that
    should be no surprise.  
    
    I get confused regarding "backspace" and "delete", but I've never been
    able to get used to having to hit the Delete key to rub out characters.
    
    Is there some way to configure hyperterm and/or a VMS terminal session
    so that I can use the backspace key instead of the Delete key?
    
    hyperterm looks nice, what with all the file transfer modes and all,
    but I refuse to relearn how to type.

	Actually, I believe I heard that the newest version of Hyperterm did fix this. Unfortunately, I think this version, unlike it's predecessors, costs $$. Check out http://www.hilgraeve.com/ /j

	Looks like I was wrong about the cost. No price was listed and I was able to download it. Must be free. /j

	The free version of Hyperterm is the Lite version, and it's free, and worth every penny (and not much more). The new version does fix the backspace/del problem (go to Properties), but it's still only a VT100 emulation that doesn't map F1-F4 to the NumLock / * - keys (you have to use F1-F4 -- tolerable on a notebook, not otherwise), and you can't (that I could find) use the editing keypad (PageUp etc.) or set a page size longer than 24 lines. There's a trial version of the commercial product that I haven't looked at; I assume the commercial product fixes most of these deficiencies.

	On my laptop, the keypad is activated via NUMLOCK and 13 of the keyboard keys [7-0 u-p j-; m]. However, I don't think I have a page up/down. I mean, I do, but it performs the expected up/down action on the window and not just the edit screen.

	I finally got around to downloading the new, improved version of HyperTerm. With the option of setting backspace = delete I'm happy. It meets my simple needs. John
