2872.0. "Windows 95 TCP network works on dial-up, not on hardwire..." by FIEVEL::FILGATE (Bruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452) Fri Mar 21 1997 16:23
When dial-up and ethernet tcp/ip are both configured
on my office PC running Windows 95, a problem with TCP networking has
developed since a disk rebuild this week. Ping will only ping the
local pc by address; pinging its name, any other pc name, or any other
address always fails. Failures on ping by address are timeouts, failures
on ping by name are indefinite hangs.
If the dial up adapter is deleted from the network configuration, the
hard wired eithernet pings again work.
Netbeui browses always work.
Dial-up networking pings always work (except when the dial-up adapter
is deleted).
Walking the 7 tcp/ip tabs in the network configuration/setup and
comparing the ethernet adapter configuration to the dial-up configuration
indicates that all the values and checks are identical.
Anyone been in this mode of late? (machine is a Celebris GL5120)

| are you sure it just started? This is a known problem in Windows95 networking - the simple
fix is to install the Windows95 ISDN Accelerator pack - which includes a fix for this
problem. You can get it from:
