2869.0. "Distributed kit/ Install variables." by HIDEOA::GABRIELI () Thu Mar 20 1997 14:41
Question for the bored/unchallenged reader...
After installing an application (a generic, 3rd party type), icons and
program groups associated with it get created, each icon pointing some-
where specific via the icon's shortcut in my \windows\start menu\programs\
app-name directory).
If this were a network-based application and I cloned this machine
and it's newly installed application to another box; and placed it in
another country, then ran the application, it's icon would point back here
to the local target server I originally used for installation. To change it
connect to a new-LOCAL server, right click the icon/properties, redirect-
the icon with a new target location. Click Apply.
Point is, these icons and their specific targets follow this application.
In Win95, can you install a piece of software using 'LOGICAL-system'\share
that would allow me to then, copy the necessary system files/directories
and push them globally and have these client recipient redefine the
'logical-system' access a server more locally and save the user the steps
to install themselves?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts/suggestions. Call if you want 2768599

I'll answer myself. After looking thru the Resource guide I see
nowhere that allows pass-ible 'variable-device' references execpt
when runing Dos applications and pre-initializing them with a pre .Bat
file (done in the app-name\properties\program) . That's what I found.
Can anyone add anything?
