2845.0. "MS Office 97 and Window 95 (950B)" by FIEVEL::FILGATE (Bruce Filgate SHR3-2/W4 237-6452) Thu Mar 13 1997 07:29

With my computer running Windows 95 (OSR2/950B) and Office 95/Pro,
it correctly would `auto run' a CD inserted in the CD drive, bringing
up the appropriate splash screen and selections. Yesterday I
upgraded the Office to 97/pro, now the auto run feature is broken.

Now when a CD is inserted, a file manager type of view comes up instead
of the expected splash screen, this is the behavior even of the
Office 97/pro CD! After removing Office 97/pro software, the behavior
 is still incorrect.

Interestingly enough, the file manager type of view that I get, appears
to be exactly the behavior that I get if a PCMCIA disk drive is inserted,
its directory is displayed in a new file window. This may mean that
Office 97 did not overlay the autorun function, but did overlay the
software modules in Windows that are responsible for identifying
 the just inserted hardware.

Anyone else run across this yet?

This may be part of the problem in 0, but other CDs are not
working either. Sorry about the format, but his is a MS .html
converted to text.

OFF: Autorun Feature on Office CD Doesn't Run

                        Article ID: Q136480
                        Creation Date: 10-SEP-1995
                        Revision Date: 24-JAN-1997

The information in this article applies to:
o Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0-CD
o Microsoft Office 97 for Windows, version 97-CD

                        SYMPTOMS

When you insert the Microsoft Office CD, the Autorun
feature may not run, even when you manually run the
Autorun.exe file located on the CD.

                        CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you have already installed
Microsoft Office on your computer, either from the Office
installation CD, from floppy disks, or from a network
                        server.

This behavior occurs because the Autorun feature is only
designed to run if Office is not already installed (for
example, the first time you run Office Setup or when you
run Office Setup after using the Remove All button in
maintenance mode). The Autorun feature displays a window
that allows you to install Office, display the online
Getting Results book, or browse the Office CD. However, you
can still perform each of these actions without using the
                        Autorun feature.

NOTE: If you insert the Microsoft Office 97 CD and
Microsoft Office 97 is already installed, a window for the
CD contents will automatically appear instead of the
Autorun running. This behavior differs from that of
Microsoft Office 7.0 for Windows. If you insert the Office
7.0 CD and Office 7.0 is already installed, no window
                        appears and nothing happens.

                        WORKAROUND

Although you cannot run the Autorun feature again on the
Office CD, you can run Setup, display the Getting Results
book, or explore the contents of the CD by doing the
                        following:
                          1. Insert the Office CD in the CD-ROM drive.
                          2. Start Windows Explorer.
                          3. In the All Folders list (left window in Windows
Explorer), click the CD-ROM drive, such as (D:).
