2805.0. "MMX and Direct3D Graphic Cards ?" by WOTVAX::HUBBARDP () Tue Feb 18 1997 15:47
I'm looking for some clarification on the use of Intel's MMX processor
and the use of a Direct3D graphics card.
I have read some of the information in the Intel web site and
understand the basics of the new instruction set. However, i'm still
confused as to the use of MMX and Direct3d cards.
So, the real question is, assuming i have an application which can make
use of Direct3d is it better to have an MMX processor or a 3D graphics
card.
I have read some information on the Microsoft web site relating to the
support of MMX with Direct3D, but its confusing.
Do MMX and Direct3d graphic cards complement each other or is it better
to have one or the other.
thanks,
pete

It's best to have both.
Some parts of the drivers will run on the CPU and others
will be handled by the card. This is probably true today also.
