| I never even noticed that there was such a think on My Computer. You can get
to dial-up networking with Start->Programs->Accessories. That gives you a
folder with your individual dial-up connections listed. Then you can do the
normal thing to make shortcuts to each specific connection.
I don't know how to get this into "my computer." I think "My..." is one of
those special "registry" folders that does not really exist as a disk
directory.

| You don't have Dial-up-networking installed properly, then. It should
appear both under My Computer and Accessories. Go into add/remove programs,
Windows Setup, Communications. It should be listed and checked there.

| It is a new installation from win95_CD to notebook. Is it necessary
to have a modem attached prior to to the installation? I have tried
add/remove programs, it doesn't help.

| No, a modem is not necessary. Does Dial-up-networking show up in
add/remove programs?

2801.6 | How mine looks... | snooty.uvo.dec.com::TRAVELL | John T, UK VMS System Support | Tue Feb 18 1997 07:47 | 15 |
| I wonder if we are talking about different things...
If you have dial-up-networking installed correctly, you will have an icon
just above the bottom of the left pane of an explorer window, below the drive
icon(s).
IF the icon does NOT exist there, you do not have D-U-N installed correctly,
IF it does exist, double-clicking it opens (not explores!) a window with at
least a `make new connection' icon in it.
If you have setup a connection there will also be an icon for that connection.
You can drag this icon onto your desktop or start button, or directly into one
of your profile folders if you want it elsewhere in your menu structure.

I could be wrong, but I think I got this after installing the Plus!
pack. I don't think it came with the base Win95 o/s. However, my
installation of Win95 was laborious and a nightmare, so I may not be
typical. (I also went through several iterations, so it's hard for me
to remember what happened when.)
I also don't think I got an icon on the desktop, but I did have the
menu item under Accessories. I then created my own icon on the desktop
after I used the New Connection icon in the D-U-N app.

2801.8 | and just saw another... WSASRV, it s growing | NWD002::FEIGLE | | Tue Feb 18 1997 13:15 | 14 |
| Being the guy with SYSTRAY, I've deleted it with no special results.
Btut .1 was right, it does seem to "indent" to the right the start menu
after you bring it up. Don't exactly know why... but it doesn't seem
to hurt anything. So I'll leave it.
It drives me "bonkers" when "stuff" gets put onto my desktop and I have
to figure out who/what/where/why.... right now I also have "wsasrv" on
the task list, hummmmmm ,maybe a by-product of this network connect.
So I'm going to leave it.... just wondered who put it there, and if so,
how would I stop it from restarting. Not worth any big effort, just
FFT.

| Switch to Windows NT Workstation 4.0; the "task manager" doesn't show
any background image tasks so folks like you won't be irratated. (Will
it still freak you out knowing that there are numerous hidden tasks? :-)
